LOOKING TO GET THE JOB - DRESS FOR SUCCESS AT YOUR INTERVIEW

​Attending a job interview can be a daunting and nerve racking experience - however if you give thought to what you are going to wear in advance and plan your dress attire, this will help you feel good/in control, give you extra confidence and self-esteem and hopefully help you to give your best .
The first thing to do is to research the organisation beforehand.   Take note of their culture, dress code, the role you are applying for, the image you want to present and ensure that your outfit is suitably appropriate.
 
KEY POINTS TO REMEMBER

• First impressions count – you may have an exceptional CV but first visual impressions do count. Research says that interviewers form a view of a candidate on first sight.
• Better to be ‘overdressed’ than ‘underdressed.
• Good tailoring and good fit.
• Good grooming is essential – manicured nails and hair, go easy on the makeup – no lippy on teeth!
• Well ironed clothes, no marks or stains
• Polished footwear, no worn heels and scuffed toes.
• Be yourself and dress to suit your personality and individuality.   If you try to be something you are not you will feel uncomfortable and will lack confidence.   Be the very best version of yourself and your personality and genuine self will shine through.
• Think colour to brighten your complexion/skin tone – does not always need to be the ‘little black dress’
• Check out your wardrobe first before spending money – more often than not you will find a favourite and appropriate outfit waiting for you.

DRESSES
Remember necklines and hemlines – neither should be too revealing.  Best to avoid showing lots of cleavage and the ideal length for dress/skirt is just on or below the knee.   

BLOUSES

Team with a pencil skirt or a tailored trouser.  Again, not showing off too much flesh but perhaps having a patterned style.   If suits wear a belt to add an accessory.

FITTED CARDIGANS

Not too flashy but would work teamed with neutrals to keep the look simple yet stylish.

TROUSER SUITS

If going for black, navy, grey etc then consider adding a pop of colour under jacket and a coloured bag. The shoes can be the same colour as the suit.

CLASSIC ACCESSORIES

A classic leather bag gives you the edge (remember to always take care of your leather goods – cleaning them often.           

Shoe height ideally moderate heel – and make sure that they feel comfortable.

Jewellery should be kept simple yet stylish.

HOSIERY

Flesh coloured tights look best, although depending on the outfit and the season a patterned/opaque tight would work – no fishnets!
